Engineers HJCE is providing civil and structural engineering services for Northern Energy’s development project at Marton cum Grafton

“Our commitment to investing in phase II of a multi-million-pound development is a major milestone for our operations. Working alongside our in-house team and other partners, the HJCE team is an integral partner in creating a high-quality commercial building that’s rapidly nearing completion.” – James Illingworth, director at Northern Energy.

We have secured work won to support the development of new office and maintenance facilities for regional energy company, Northern Energy at Marton cum Grafton near York, North Yorkshire, which is now nearing completion.

This current phase of development is part of a significant investment by Northern Energy to create a future proof infrastructure, bringing forward state-of-the-art facilities that will play a key role in meeting both the operational and long-term strategic goals of the business.

HJCE has been involved from concept through to detailed design work, providing extensive technical and consultancy support around the development of a purpose-built modern head office complex and a state-of-the-art vehicle maintenance building, which are being built using the latest low-carbon construction methods.

MD Andrew Fairburn said the firm is facilitating site development with an extensive package of design support for the main structural engineering work as the work enters its final phase of construction.

He added: “It’s rewarding to see the vision now becoming a fully realised facility that will support Northern Energy’s continued growth for years to come. This is a fantastic project to be involved in, delivering an impressive development alongside a collaborative client and a strong professional team. It also showcases our engineering capabilities together with the skills and expertise available locally to help bring forward ambitious commercial property investments and detailed design work.”

The first phase of the project was completed in early 2024, which comprised the site infrastructure and gas storage tanks.

Project architects are Harrogate-based SPX Architects, the main contractor is the HACS Group while project management and QS services has been provided by the Banks Smith Partnership.
